Flinders is a peaceful retreat and a popular holiday area that has flourished in recent years. Close to both surf and safe beaches, it has unparalleled views of Phillip Island, The Nobbies and Seal Rocks - some of Victoria’s most rugged and beautiful coastline.
Centrally located, the Flinders Hotel is an ideal base to visit local wineries to sample some of the finest wines in the district. Or you can enjoy a round of golf (the local club was established at the turn of the last century and boasts one of the most scenic courses in the country). Plus you can indulge in fishing, swimming, yachting, hang gliding, cycling, horse riding, tennis, walking and browsing in some of the charming galleries and shops.
You can catch a wave – surf the reef and beach breaks between Flinders and Port Leo, an easy drive away. And you’re only a 15-minute drive to Cape Schanck which has long views over the great stretch of surfing beaches from Gunnamatta to Portsea.
And while you are travelling around the area, look out for roadside signs for somewhere to stop and pick strawberries and tomatoes or call in for fresh farm eggs. In season, you can find cherry growers and farms selling organic vegetables, cheese makers and small shops where fishermen sell the latest catch. Or visit one of the local markets such as the renowned Red Hill Market where you'll find a great selection of delicious, homemade and home-grown produce.
